Lines in Yard or Lawn? How to kill Voles and Moles in Joplin & Carthage MO Area

Who is seeing lines like this in their lawn?  Guess What.......?  These are not Moles....but rather Voles.  Voles are a mouse-like animal that is more brown in color and its head is more rounded and chunky compared to a mouse.  They generally are outside animals and this damage you see above this post, shows what they do.  They tunnel through the grass under the snow in the winter time and their high energy movement creates "lines" in the yard. The snow is their protective cover in the winter time and when it melts they are forced to retreat back to their spring haunts like landscaping islands, rock walls, kids swing sets that have mulch or sand, etc.  they will create den entrance holes close to what people refer to as "snake" holes.  But we all know that snakes DO NOT dig holes.  Voles damage the lawn by digging out the grass below the dirts surface and eating the grass closer to the root.  Their droppings are usually green in color and will be just bigger than mice droppings.

The pictures you see above were taken March 9, 2015 in lawns that Garrison's Wildlife Control is currently servicing.   Voles, once they have taken up residence in your lawn, won't go away once spring comes in but they will reuse those tunnels again once the grass gets more thicker and taller.  Trapping really is the only solution.  While trapping will remove the resident voles, it will not get rid of the animal for good in your lawn.  Anyone who tells you they can permanently keep voles away is a Liar.  Population control of the current animals in your lawn is the correct solution.
