Lines in Yard or Lawn? How to kill Voles and Moles in Joplin & Carthage MO Area

Who is seeing lines like this in their lawn?  Guess What.......?  These are not Moles....but rather Voles.  Voles are a mouse-like animal that is more brown in color and its head is more rounded and chunky compared to a mouse.  They generally are outside animals and this damage you see above this post, shows what they do.  They tunnel through the grass under the snow in the winter time and their high energy movement creates "lines" in the yard. The snow is their protective cover in the winter time and when it melts they are forced to retreat back to their spring haunts like landscaping islands, rock walls, kids swing sets that have mulch or sand, etc.  they will create den entrance holes close to what people refer to as "snake" holes.  But we all know that snakes DO NOT dig holes.  Voles damage the lawn by digging out the grass below the dirts surface and eating the grass closer to the root.  Their droppings are usually green in color and will be just bigger than mice droppings.

The pictures you see above were taken March 9, 2015 in lawns that Garrison's Wildlife Control is currently servicing.   Voles, once they have taken up residence in your lawn, won't go away once spring comes in but they will reuse those tunnels again once the grass gets more thicker and taller.  Trapping really is the only solution.  While trapping will remove the resident voles, it will not get rid of the animal for good in your lawn.  Anyone who tells you they can permanently keep voles away is a Liar.  Population control of the current animals in your lawn is the correct solution.

How to Get Rid of Voles

Voles are a unique little animal. Sometimes called the Prairie Mouse. Vole damage looks like holes all over the yard Voles are one of the common species of wildlife that we are called upon to control in Missouri. The Vole can be found living in the lawn, landscape, Juniper bushes and other shrubbery throughout Joplin, Monett, Neosho, Carthage, Webb City, Carl Junction, Springfield, Rogersville, Willard, Nixa, Branson, and Ozark. Voles also live under porches and patios. Voles create a small quarter to fifty cent piece size holes in the ground. Voles commonly eat Junipers, lawn clippings and other shrubs.
Vole control and removal should be initiated as soon as the animal has been discovered living in this area as Voles will chew the bark from trees and shrubs thus effectively killing them. Colorado is home to the Meadow Vole, Southern red-backed Vole, Montane Vole, Mexican Vole, Prairie Vole, Sagebrush Vole and Heather Vole. They are often called meadow, field or pine mice. People sometimes confuse the Shrew for a Vole.

The communities of Ash Grove, Aurora, Battlefield, Billings, Branson, Branson West, Carl Junction, Carthage, Clever, Diamond, Duquesne, Erie, Goodman Jasper, Joplin, Kimberling City, Marionville, Monett, Mount Vernon, Neosho, Nixa, Oswego, Ozark, Pierce City, Purcell, Purdy, Republic, Rogersville, Shoal Creek Drive, Silver Creek, Strattford, Stotts City, Webb City, Willard and Wilsons Creek Missouri, MO all experience Vole control and removal problems.

Trapping a Vole humanely is important to prevent as little stress as necessary to the Vole. Getting rid of a Vole is a process that should be carried out with proper planning and procedures. Vole removal can be done in an efficient manner with the proper tools and training. If I had a Vole in my yard, I would want a professional that could remove the Vole in the yard quickly and humanely.
Vole in your wall or house is a service that we provide including the deodorization of the area. Shrews or Voles do occasionally die in unusual places and they must be removed as soon as possible. We have even found a dead Vole in a basement. Leaving the Vole will only make the problem worse and cause further damage to your home and attract other animals and insects.
